For generations, Pasco High School Boys Basketball has represented the Bulldogs with toughness, pride, and a tradition of competing at the highest level. From legendary teams of the past to today’s Bulldogs, generations of players have worn the purple and white, building a program founded on discipline, teamwork, accountability, resilience, and relentless effort.
Pasco’s basketball history runs deep. The Bulldogs captured the Washington State Championship in 1947, establishing Pasco as one of the state’s early basketball powers. The program has continued to make its presence felt on Washington’s biggest stage, including memorable state runner-up finishes in 1970 and 1979. The undefeated 1970 Bulldogs advanced all the way to the championship game before falling to Snohomish in overtime for their only loss of the season. Nearly a decade later, Pasco returned to the championship game in 1979, finishing second to neighboring Richland.
The tradition continued into the modern era. In 2007, Pasco returned to the Tacoma Dome and advanced to the Class 4A State Final Four, defeating Curtis and Decatur before reaching the state semifinals. The Bulldogs ultimately finished fourth in Washington, adding another chapter to a program with generations of postseason success.
Some of the region’s most successful coaches have also been part of Bulldog Basketball. Historical coaching records compiled by Parker Hodge list several Pasco coaches among the area’s leaders. Don Monson coached Pasco from 1967–76 and compiled a 166–61 record (.731). Other prominent Pasco-connected coaches in the historical records include Mike Guajardo (283 wins), Chad Herron (120 wins), Dick King (74 career wins). These records span different eras—and, for several coaches, multiple schools—but together demonstrate the remarkable coaching tradition connected to Pasco Basketball.
That history also includes exceptional student-athletes. Pasco great Ron Howard earned First Team All-State and First Team All-American honors in 1970 while helping lead the Bulldogs to the state championship game. Howard was later inducted into the WIAA Hall of Fame, becoming part of a legacy demonstrating just how far the lessons learned while wearing purple and white can carry a Bulldog.
Today, Bulldog Boys Basketball carries that legacy forward. We develop more than basketball players—we develop young men who understand that success is earned one practice, one possession, and one decision at a time. Playing for Pasco means competing for the teammate beside you, honoring those who wore the uniform before you, and representing a community that takes tremendous pride in its Bulldogs.
There are no shortcuts. There is no substitute for preparation, sacrifice, toughness, and work.
